TweetManic Focus, the future funk prodigy born in the Twin Cities and residing in Chicago just released his debut album on All Good Records. 'Cerebral Eclipse' provides a soulful journey through space.
The album is available on Soundcloud, Spotfiy, iTunes and digital stores everywhere! Check for our track by track breakdown below.
1) Dedicated to the Service
The opening track on Cerebral Eclipse really sets the mood. Love the way the infectious slow guitars start of more slowly and build into the energetic finish. Setting the pace for the rest of the album, 'Dedicated to the Service' is definitely a stand out track.
2) Trailblazin' (Feat. Eryn Allen Kane & Probcause)
Probcause is quickly becoming the go to MC for any future funk / hip hop collaborations. 'Trailblazin' blends soulful lyrics, traditional hip hop beats, and incredible dub elements. Make sure to head over to Facebook and like the homie ProbCause's page.
3) Space Scholar Synthesis (Feat. Michal Menert)
The OG Michal Menert blessed J.mac with this collab coming straight from the rings of Saturn! It's pretty amazing how you can distinctly hear both Michal Menert and Manic Focus' signature styles coming together on such a cool track. I had the opportunity to catch Michal drop this gem at Decadance NYE and the crowd really ate it up!
4) Rooster
The only cut off of 'Cerebral Eclipse' that was previously released. J.mac through a few extra twists on this one and at the end of the day... was too solid of a track to leave off the final project. Enjoy some classic Manic Focus on this one!
5) On The Horizon
The lead single off of 'Cerebral Eclipse', the smooth bass on this track is undeniable. What originally started off as GRiZ collab led to J.mac finding his own lane on this one. 'On The Horizon' has beomce a staple in Manic Focus' recent live shows. Sit back, chill, and enjoy the positive vibrations :)
6) Just Another Fool
One of sleeper gems on this 'Cerebral Eclipse'. 'Just Another Fool' finds Manic Focus comfortable in his own production lane. Signature soul grooves, dub elements, and country/folk vibes set this track off. My personal favorite track on the record for snowboard/ski playlists.
7) We Can Fly (Feat. TORCH)
The last song in the recording process for 'Cerebral Eclipse', featuring killer drums from Torch. Once Torch joined J.mac onstage at the Concord Music Hall North Coast Afterparty, I knew this jam had to make the final cut. With some of the craziest bass elements on the entire album, turn your speakers up for this one!
8) Travelin' On My Mind (Feat. The Coop)
'Travelin' On My Mind' is my favorite song on 'Cerebral Eclipse'. Not only does it highlight Manic Focus' signature style but the jam infused breakdown at the 3:20 mark is just too damn good.
J.Mac, You're a genius for this one my friend!
9) Bumpin' in the Voodoo (Feat. Dominic Lalli)
'Bumpin' in the Voodoo' was already one of my favorite tracks on Cerebral Eclipse. Then, thankfully, Manic Focus was stuck on a bus with Big Gigantic for their 'Touch the Sky' tour and Dom decided to blessed us with his impeccable saxophone talents. Big ups to Dom, Jeremy, and the whole Big Gigantic Family!
10) Life Goes On (Feat. GRiZ)
Ahhh here we are. We've made it to the end of Cerebral Eclipse. What better way to close the curtain than to unleash 'Life Goes On', the long awaited collab between Manic Focus and GRiZ. Similar to 'Space Scholar Synthesis' with Michal Menert, 'Life Goes On' is the perfect crossroad between these two producers signature sounds. Grant showcases is vast knowledge song structure while waiting to grace us with them legendary Sax notes in the outro. "Never Give Up Cause Life Goes On!"
