Based out of Vancouver, Canada The Funk Hunters have been making noise on the west coast for years and are starting to spread their sound all over the world. From Djing out the back of a van in the Shambhala Music Festival campsites to performing nearly 500 shows in over 15 countries The Funk Hunters are on to something! Duncan Smith and Nick Middleton brought their musical talents together in 2008 and became a full fledged project in 2011, The Funk Hunters have been picking up steam ever since.
Not familiar with the Canadian Funk duo? You’re in luck - the guys just dropped off an amazingly groovy mix via Thump. Press play on the mix (also featuring some All Good cuts) and learn up with our quick read below:
Heavily rooted in hip-hop, classic rock, funk, and electronic music, The Funk Hunters have established their own distinctive sound. Combine that with their unique live performance experience you'll be forced to keep your feet moving all night long! Whether its the four turn-tables, live horns, bass, guitar, MC’s, or the live visual effects... The Funk Hunters know how to throw a party! Without ever repeating sets, the fresh live show keeps crowds on their toes. "Its what keeps it exciting, inspiring, and fresh for us, there is an exchange between the artist and crowd during every performance," says Duncan. "We want to keep people excited and questioning what they’re going to get next from us."
Recently, the Canadian natives have started to make more and more waves in the U.S and for all the right reasons! Nick and Duncan were just given the opportunity to support Savoy and Michal Menert at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Described as “a surreal experience” Duncan remarked after performing to packed house at one of the worlds most famous venues.
This coming weekend The Funk Hunters head to Electric Forest, where concertgoers will be blessed with not one, but two sets from the guys:
One of those sets will be joined by Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 who has been an accomplished and extremely influential MC for over 15 years. Electric Forest attendees are extremely lucky to be able to see the diversity and uniqueness first hand that The Funk Hunters bring to every performance. “We have heard so many great things about Electric Forest and are so excited about the diverse line-up and are so stoked to to go down and experience it.”
