Let it be known, G Jones is an innovator, not an imitator. His genre busting bass music has gotten the Santa Cruz native a tremendous amount of praise and has helped him become one of the fastest rising stars in the game. He had a break-out year in 2014 with a ton of releases and collabs with artists such as Minnesota, Grimblee, Bleep Bloop, and Guttstar, just to name a few, and he hasn't slowed down one bit. Since the new year, he has continued to release quality music, including putting out an original tune with Bassnectar and forming Nite School Klik with DJ Shadow.
Back in January, G Jones posted a slammin' mix full of unreleased tracks that left his fans eager for a full release. Last week, that EP finally dropped as a "name your price" download. 'That Odd EP In The Pit Of My Hard Drive' is a true bass music masterpiece that is filled with hard-hitting 808's, wonky synths, glitchy video game samples, and even old-school rave vibes. This EP will surely appeal to a wide spectrum of the electronic music audience and propel G Jones even further into the stratosphere.
The intro track, "That Odd Feeling In The Pit Of My Stomach", starts off with a long and suspenseful build-up of his weirded-out synth sounds, finally dropping into a groove that is appropriate for an opener track. The following tune "Verve" follows a similar pace with its minimal approach. However, on "Broken Glowsticks", all bets are off as the mood changes drastically with a neck breaker of tune that features classic house synths and the signature G Jones drum style. Other notable tunes on the EP are "Apollo", "Ned Flanders", and Syntax Error". There are also two excellent collaborative tracks featuring Doshy and Zeke Beats, respectfully. Whether you are a bass head looking for experimental beats, or just looking to rage face, this EP will satisfy your musical palette.
G Jones will be hitting a handful of cities this fall leading up to Bassnectar's big Halloween blowout in Grand Rapids, MI. This dude does not disappoint live, so be sure to check him out if you can!
