TweetYeah, that’s right. This San Francisco based street artist just simply goes by Deb.
(Or @Deb on Instagram)
No matter what medium she uses - aerosols cans, acrylics, oils and gauche on wood, canvas, digital design, illustration or sculpture - Deb has a talent for creating strong, fierce women. Seriously, if “Stop Trippin’” could be transferred to paper, it would look like one of Deb’s characters. But that’s not all she does. She also imagines colorful representations of Hindu gods, tagging her work all across the globe for the past 15 years.
While this lovely lady is originally from Melbourne, Australia, she currently resides in San Francisco. She does commission work for clients such as DC Comics and 7-11 Slurpees, but she’s mostly known for her pin-up girls. You can see her sultry street art in Lower Haight, SOMA, and the Mission; she just painted a large mural on the side of Beauty Bar. So if you’re walking around the city, don’t be surprised if you encounter a Deb piece. You’ll definitely know it when you see it.
Deb was also one of the 7 finalists picked to be in a 7-story mural art installation contest at Hotel Zetta. Each contestant had to paint one flight of stairs, which meant that Deb had just 2 and a half days to paint 4 large murals. Check out one of her walls, it’s stunning.
Deb, 36, still goes back to Australia often to continue to keep up all the hard work she has put into the Australian art scene for many years. Deb also spends a lot of time preparing works to donate to many charity causes and events every year and in 2012 was one of the top ten fundraisers of the year for the Victorian Cancer Council.
Deb is currently working on her next traveling art show, exhibiting in the States and possibly Australia.
Check out our quick interview with her below. We'll keep you posted on all things Deb and excited to share her works to come!
Deb: I was always painting and drawing since I was a little kid so I always knew that art was what i wanted to do for my career
Deb: All different places. Movies, outdoors, News, Health, life in general and what ever is going on good or bad end up inspiring my works a lot of the time, the concepts are always changing.
Deb: I'm working on my next show. Im actually not able to mention anything about it till its done. It's one of my biggest things yet in terms of production and the energy I've put into it and what will come of it.
Deb: I listen to all kinds of music. Lots of Old RnB Rap, Metal, lots of 60s Soul, 80's. Seriously anything goes of it's good. (But no Techno for me).
Some things that I blast often when I'm working are David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, Cindy Lawper, Sugar Pie De Santo, Bill Withers, Metallica, Led Zeppelin. God so much music I listen to music all day I can't work in silence - I won't get anything done.
Sometimes I put on movies while I'm painting or particular movies for inspiration, I've been watching a lot of old movies (before color came out) this month.
Deb: Yes! I'm making something... I've been working on it for months and months. Everyone will be able to afford one too.
So please keep a look out round about October!
