Milwaukee-based producer Artifakts has been steadily mastering his craft since early 2012, finding his niche making emotive electronic hip-hop and downtempo beats with a focus on vintage samples, smooth bass lines, and classic boom-bap style drums. It is this formula that has proved successful as he continues to gain new fans with every show he plays and every track he puts out.
You can tell right away by listening to his tunes that he isn't necessarily interested in cranking out the next huge dance floor banger, and instead has crafted a sound that has much more soul and substance, much like the artists that he is influenced by: Pretty Lights, RJD2, Blue Sky Black Death, and Blockhead.
Artifakts recently released a collection of beats on Super Best Records called 'Spilled Coffee', the first official comprehensive release he has put out this year. Artifakts provides his listeners with a true throwback experience on this beat compilation, with each track perfectly representing the more soulful side of his sound.
While he has been known for making electronica-fused beats, on this particular release he has mostly forgone the gritty synthesis found in his previous work, and has put more of an emphasis on warm vinyl samples and MPC style cuts. Old school hip-hop fans would have to agree that these beats are the type of laid back head-nodders that give you the nostalgic feeling of the genreās golden age! Whether early in the morning or that 2:30 feeling... "Spilled Coffee" should help you get on the right track.
